The Plaza de Santa Cruz, is the site where the church of Santa Cruz was located. This church was the place where the great painter was buried. The relationship of this church with the artist does not end with the end of his days, since being a neighbor of the area, Murillo used to frequent it
According to it was told, the artist spent hours contemplating the painting the descent of Christ, of Pedro of campaign. So much time the artist used to take in the temple that the legend tells that one day the sacristan had to attract attention because he had to close, and the artist replied that he was waiting for the descent of that divine Lord.
The church was destroyed by the French in 1810, leaving the place and the location of Murillo’s tomb in the mystery. However, a plaque indicated in the square mentions this fact about a great artista.
